Lake Union Park Floating Market

The FarmBoat Floating Market aboard the Virginia V at Lake Union Park is closed for good. We are sincerely appreciative of all those who supported our efforts to make this an amazing one-of-a-kind Seattle attraction over the last several years. Unfortunately, Seattle's growing bureaucracy and increasingly stringent policies against small businesses and independent nonprofits are more than we can handle. Look for us in other Ports!

Special thanks goes out to the Virginia V Foundation for hosting this great grass roots community event. We hope that people continue to visit and support the SS Virginia V!

For more information about the senseless bureaucratic actions that closed the Lake Union Floating Market, see "FarmBoat Under Siege."

FarmBoat Floating Market on the Virginia V at Lake Union Park in Seattle FarmBoat wood boxes

The FarmBoat Floating Market was held aboard the historic steamship Virginia V docked at Lake Union Park Wharf from 2010 to 2013. Vendors displayed locally grown produce, specialty foods and artisan crafts on board the 125' wooden vessel--just as it was done a century ago. Market visitors were able to tour the ship for free and learn about Puget Sound agricultural and maritime heritage while they shop.

The FarmBoat Floating Market shared the old-world charm and ambiance once enjoyed by Northwest seaport residents during the age of sail and steam. Hundreds of ships like the Virginia V traveled the waterways of Puget Sound at the turn of the 20th century--transporting farm goods and people before there were highways. Shopping at the FarmBoat Floating Market aboard the Virginia V The Virginia V was originally built to transport farm products from Vashon Island to Pike Place Market in 1922.

Participating Vessels:

Steamer Virginia V - A classic 125' wooden steamship. Fulley restored with an original tripple expansion steam engine dating back to the late 1800's. LEARN MORE >>
