The FarmBoat Story

The rhythm of a restless sea coaxes a new bounty each season from a misty coast. Vessels laden with local harvests host eager patrons who learn of nature's delectable offerings. Water connects all life. For centuries, boats hewn of wood carry to market the sustenance of mankind and the stories of the serene and tempestuous sea.

It is here where FarmBoat began. Rooted in the ancient traditions of farming and seafaring families, a modern need is fulfilled to forge a connection once again with a trusted and sustainable past. The floating market is a distant predecessor of today's urban markets. One by which the transporter served also as the purveyor.

What FarmBoat Does

FarmBoat connects people with locally grown sustainable foods by water and by world wide web. We provide education about the true value of local foods for health, environment, and economy--while sharing a rich and colorful heritage that was an integral part of making us who we are today.

Fusion of Local Food and the Ancient Sea

FarmBoat assists maritime heritage organizations to facilitate authentic dockside markets and traditional seafaring adventures that were common experiences at seaports a century ago. Rather than organizing markets on land where farmers show up in parking lots with vans and plastic tents, goods are brought in by sea from other local ports. Consumers walk the docks and select local foods directly from the decks of traditional boats just as it was done in days gone by.

FarmBoat programs engage both mind and appetite while raising awareness and desire for a higher quality of life through natural local food and the tantalizing allure of the sea.

Local food producers strive to convey a seemingly simple value proposition to consumers, but often the message falls on deaf ears when drowned out by the dominating voice of multi-national food conglomerates. FarmBoat helps local independents by forming a cooperative alliance to gain individual brand awareness though a unique communication, distribution and product presentation model. We celibrate the many family farms among the islands, river valleys and historic port communities throughout the Puget Sound region as we connect them with new consumers in a venue that is enjoyable, educational, conducive and commensurate with the superior quality of their products.

Maritime heritage organizations struggle each year to maintain historic boats and ships. Farmboat provides a way to utilize these vessels to raise awareness for healthy local foods and the region's maritime roots. FarmBoat is turning back the clock to share a colorful notion of the past with a present need to connect people with sustainable foods that have less impact on the environment. Join us as we float back to a time when fruits and vegetables were picked at the peak of perfection and transported over the cool waters of Puget Sound to the dining tables of Northwest families.
